So, earlier this year I decided to get my bike out more and pedal around and about as much as poss, only I felt a bit disheartened by its colour - so grey! :-/ Saw some brand new inspirational brightly coloured bicycles in cycle shops I then had an idea!......... Paint mine! ;-) So after googling around on how to's etc I begun the process.
Thoroughly cleaned down the bike frame and had it disassembled and I hung it all in bits on the washing line ready for transformation. I used a scotchbrite pad to rub down the parts and remove top coat of old paint and then applied total of 6 layers of primer (using different types of primer depending on what I was painting - plastic, rubber, metal etc). Paints used were Rust-Oleum Painters Touch spray paints in Yellow Starflower (the main frame), Green Apple (pannier rack and chain and mud guards) and Hot Pink, the latter being for the basket which was a boring brown whicker effort previously. scotbrite scrubbed the finished pieces after 8 coats of colour and the applied 2 coats of clear lacquer. Got some new cream coloured tyres, new 'comfortable' saddle and some foam covers for the handle bars and some silicone clip on lights for front and back. Now I LOVE MY NEW BIKE! I use it most days and get a lot of glances and comments about it. :-)
